Asia Pacific Cultural Center proudly joined the City of Tacoma to celebrate Lunar New Year with a meaningful and joyous proclamation ceremony. On January 28, 2025, during the City Council Meeting, APCC leaders and community members gathered to accept the official Lunar New Year Proclamation, marking an important recognition of cultural diversity in Tacoma.
Executive Director Lua Pritchard, Vice President Dr. Belinda Louie, President and Founder Patsy Su, and members of the Lunar New Year Steering Committee represented APCC at the event. Together with the broader APCC community, they shared their gratitude for the City’s support in honoring the rich traditions and heritage celebrated during Lunar New Year.
Observed by many cultures across the world, Lunar New Year is celebrated on the second new moon after the winter solstice. The Year of the Snake symbolizes transformation, resilience, and prosperity. The proclamation serves as a tribute to the diverse ways that Tacoma’s residents mark this festive occasion—whether through family gatherings, vibrant performances, or traditional foods that bring blessings of good fortune, health, and happiness.
"May the Year of the Snake bring you all the good things life has to offer”. The evening was a vibrant celebration of cultural unity, made possible by the commitment of community members and the City of Tacoma's dedication to honoring the traditions of its residents.
APCC continues its mission to serve as a bridge between cultures, bringing people together to celebrate and share the unique stories of the Asia Pacific region. As the Lunar New Year unfolds, the center invites everyone to join its upcoming events and activities, further spreading the spirit of hope, connection, and renewal that the Year of the Snake represents.
