January 2026 Free Health Screening Fair Report: New Year Milestone!

The team behind our most recent fair on January 10th, 2026: Doctors, volunteers, and staff from Asia Pacific Cultural Center

APCC’s Free Health Screening Fair on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, marked a strong and meaningful start to the new year. The event welcomed 48 community members, representing a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, including: Chinese, Cambodian, Korean, Laotian, Vietnamese, Samoan, Russian, and Ukrainian communities.

Designed to support low-income individuals and families who may otherwise face barriers to accessing healthcare services, our mission is to help promote culturally competent and preventative care within underserved communities. Led by Dr. David Zhang (MD, PhD, FACC) and Dr. Edward Seto (MD, FAAFP), our fair is predominantly made up of AANHPI and other BIPOC healthcare professionals, ensuring culturally competent care that meets the needs of our community. Thanks to our diverse team, we can take the time to offer interpretation services for participants as needed, prioritizing inclusivity in a way that is often challenging in typical healthcare settings.

Since our launch of these health screening fairs back in 2023, APCC has provided a variety of essential services to help address the needs of our community. The program provides heart murmur screenings supported by ECG and echocardiography services, a health resources booth, and comprehensive medication reviews. Additionally, we offer tuberculosis awareness education, alongside occasional diabetic screenings and on-site vaccinations.

The impact of these services was reflected in the words of a first-time participant, who attended with their family of three:

“This is something that would take me months to make an appointment and see a doctor for. This is such a great resource!”

This fair also celebrated an exciting milestone for APCC. Through our partnership with DOH Care-a-Van Services and Bird’s Eye Medical, we were able to offer expanded health services for the first time. Participants gained access to integrated blood glucose and on-site HbA1c screening, blood pressure monitoring, and professional vision screening services. In addition, Bird’s Eye Medical also provided educational resources on diabetes, blood pressure management, and mental health wellness. Altogether, these services supported 34 of our participants and further strengthened APCC’s commitment to providing accessible, preventative healthcare.

APCC’s Free Health Screening Fairs are typically held on a quarterly basis throughout the year, allowing us to provide consistent access to preventative care and education. As we prepare for our next fair in March in accordance with World TB Day, we plan to help raise awareness of this ongoing public health issue while continuing to serve more community members and offer an even wider range of services. These fairs not only provide essential health services to our community, but they also help foster a sense of community - bringing together individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
