Job Description:

 

Supervision:

 

Under the direction of the Youth Program Manager, this position will provide direct programming to help at-risk youth, ages 8-24, to overcome barriers and help plot the path for success in their school and in life.

 

Description of Duties:

 

Youth Coordinators serves as a positive role model to youths and provide mentorship, academic and career support, social-emotional support, and facilitate group activities to build leadership skills, civic engagement, and cultural connections, with an emphasis on high school/GED completion, post-secondary education, and/or career paths.

This role involves connecting youths and their families to necessary services and providing activities and projects to build self-confidence, cultural identities, histories, and youth leadership. The Youth Coordinator collaborates with schools to provide cultural and language barrier navigation and establish strength-based wraparound services that support youths' success in the school environment. Youth Coordinator(s) works onsite at schools, at the Center, and at various activity sites.

 

The Youth Coordinator(s) will adhere to the following job description on a daily basis:

 

  1. To assist in planning, coordinating, organizing, and implementing activities, services, events related to after-school tutoring, lunch drop-in, summer youth engagements, and other cultural connection engagements.

  2. To plan, coordinate, organize, and implement wrap-arounds services to support students to catch up and maintain academic success and achievements necessary to graduate from high school.

  3. To conduct onsite visits at assigned schools to provide mentorship, academic and career support, social-emotional support, and facilitate group activities to build leadership skills, civic engagement, and cultural connections of students.

  4. Assist Youth Program Manager to plan, coordinate, and implement overall goals for the Program.

  5. To assist in developing and submitting program reports as required in a timely manner such as weekly, monthly, and annual reports.

  6. To attend all required meetings and training for the Youth Program and as assigned on an as-needed basis. 

  7. To represent APCC in Youth Program activities and as assigned on an as-needed basis. 

  8. To help recruit and refer resources as needed to address the needs of children, families, and individual participants/clients. 

  9. To recruit and organize volunteers for the Youth Program. 

  10. To assist in the collection of data related to Youth Program outcomes and deliverables.  

  11. To report to work as required and approved by the Program Manager/Executive Director. 

  12. Responsible for developing and maintaining official program participant files and updating them daily or as needed. Each client must be registered in the program before a participant file is opened. All documents and daily logs must be in the files.  

  13. Responsible for keeping all participant/client files confidential in a case cabinet that is locked daily and maintained for up to six (6) years after the participant/client case closes.  

  14. Will represent Asia Pacific Cultural Center in a positive and respectful manner with moral ethics and integrity at all times. 

  15. And all other required duties by the Program Manager and/or Executive Director. 

 

Qualifications:


  • 1+ years’ experience working with “opportunity” or “at-risk” youth

  • Knowledge of the Public School System

  • Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)

  • Proven ability to build relationships and trust quickly.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Experience in providing academic assistance in subjects such as Math, Science, and English.

  • Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, when necessary, consistent with the demands of the students and schools.

  • Successful candidates must have access to reliable transportation, an essential requirement for this position.

  • Punctuality.

  • High School Diploma; bachelor’s degree in a related or relevant field preferred.

  • Speak another language other than English is a plus.


Compensation:

 

Salary: $42k to start - depending on qualification

Probation:  6 months from begin date

Termination: Washington State Employment at will.
