Community Environmental Justice Program

Position:  Program Manager

 Start—ASAP


 Reports to: Executive Director

Type of Employment: Fulltime

Compensation: $49k to $51k to start

 

Job Description:

 

Supervision:

 

Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position will manage, plan, coordinate, and implement culturally competent projects, activities, and events for the Community Environmental Justice Program. We recognize that communities experiencing the greatest impacts of environmental injustice have historically been left out of decision-making processes and this exclusion has contributed to the environmental health disparities that BIPoC-frontline people and overburdened communities are experiencing today. This program seeks to ensure the inclusion and prioritization of those for whom the impacts of climate change, pollution, and hazardous climate related events are most severe, with a focus on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Communities.

 

Description of Duties:

 

The Program Manager will adhere to the following job description on a daily basis:

 

Program Development and Management:

  • Develop and implement culturally sensitive environmental justice program activities, services, events, and projects tailored to, but not limited to the specific needs of the AANHPI communities.

  • Develop evaluation and data collection methods to regularly assess the efficacy of environmental justice programs and make data-driven adjustments for continuous improvement.

  • Manage the contractual deliverables and outcomes of the program and ensure timely submission of reports.

 

 Leadership and Supervision:

  • Coordinate and supervise environmental justice staff, ensuring effective service delivery, adherence to ethical guidelines, and promote professional development and ensuring the highest standards of care.

  • Establish and maintain a positive and supportive work environment, fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team.

     

Community Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with AANHPI community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to identify environmental justice initiatives and develop community-based initiatives.

  • Recruit and organize program participants for environmental justice program activities and events.

 

Training and Education:

  • Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance cultural competency in environmental service delivery.

  • Promote environmental awareness and increase engagement of AANHPI communities with environmental justice programming through workshops, presentations, and public events.

 

Data Records:

  • Responsible for keeping all participant/client files confidential in a case cabinet that is locked daily and maintained for up to six (6) years after the participant/client case closes.  

    Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Qualifications: Must have reliable transportationMust have a current and active driver’s license for Washington State (or plan to obtain one within 3 months of employment). Must have at least 3 years of experience in social services leadership.  Must have experience in working with multicultural settings. Preferred BA/BS degree in Education or related field but must have at least an AA Degree in public administration, social work, psychology, or education/social service fields.  Education can be supplemented by noted excellent experience in working with social service programs or settings for 5 years or more.  Must have notable experience in leading community people.  Experience in working with diverse populations is a plus.  Speak another language other than English is a plus.  Extra training in working with community groups is a plus.  Must be able to work on and navigate computer technology and applications.  Excellent ability to write and speak English.  Must be able to work with diverse populations, particularly AANHPI communities.  Must be trustworthy and be able to be empowered to work independently without direct supervision.  Must have the initiative to create and implement activities required to advance the Community Environmental Justice Program to positive gains.

 

Compensation:

 

Salary:  $49k to $51k to start -depending on qualification

Probation:  6 months from begin date

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Grants Manager, this position will assist in the outreach, community engagement, creation and implementation of projects, activities and events for the Environmental Justice Program. We recognize that communities experiencing the greatest impacts of environmental injustice have historically been left out of decision-making processes and this exclusion has contributed to the environmental health disparities that BIPoC-frontline people and overburdened communities are experiencing today. This program seeks to ensure the inclusion and prioritization of those for whom the impacts of climate change, pollution, and hazardous climate related events are most severe, with a focus on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Communities.

 

Description of Duties:

 

The Project/Outreach Coordinator(s) will help to plan, coordinate, and implement culturally competent environmental justice programming and services to the AANHPI Communities.

 

The Project/Outreach Coordinator(s) will adhere to the following job description on a daily basis:

 

  • To assist in planning, coordinating, organizing, and implementing activities, services, events related to the Community HEAL Fund Project grant deliverables.

  • To support the establishment of environmental justice activities, services and events for the organization.

  • To plan and implement a culturally responsive outreach plan that develops relationships with cultural groups, community groups, and individuals of Pierce County and statewide who are but not limited to AANHPI populations and are providing on environmental programming.

  • To assist in developing and submitting program reports as required in a timely manner such as weekly, monthly, and annual reports.

  • To attend all required meetings and training for the Environmental Justice program and as assigned on an as-needed basis. 

  • To represent APCC in Environmental Justice Program activities as assigned on an as-needed basis. 

  • To help recruit and refer resources as needed to address the needs of children, families, and individual participants/clients. 

  • To recruit and organize volunteers for the Environmental Justice Program. 

  • To assist in the collection of data related to Environmental Justice Program outcomes and deliverables.  

  • To report to work as required and approved by the Program Manager/Executive Director. 

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining official program participant files and updating them daily or as needed. Each client must be registered in the program before a participant file is opened. All documents and daily logs must be in the files.  

  • Responsible for keeping all participant/client files confidential in a case cabinet that is locked daily and maintained for up to six (6) years after the participant/client case closes.  

  • Will represent Asia Pacific Cultural Center in a positive and respectful manner with moral ethics and integrity at all times. 

  • And all other required duties by the Program Manager and/or Executive Director.
